Prologue & Title

Builds suspense and shows all the children are linked together. They walked into the dark illustrating how nobody knows or saw where they went. The movie title is in bright red contrasting the calm blues of the scene probably signifying that there is more going on behind the surreal scene.


How do we know it is a film poster? What key conventions (typical features) of a film poster can you spot and what do they communicate to the audience?

The key conventions that make it a film poster include the prologue, movie release date and large title, they are usually used to

Who are the companies behind the film? Who directs or stars in the film? Who is making money from this media product? You may need to research this on the internet if it isn't clear on the poster.

Zach Cregger directed the film, alongside producers Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules. The stars of the film include : Josh Brolin as Archer Graff, Julia Garner as Justine Gandy, Alden Ehrenreich as Paul, Austin Abrams as James, Benedict Wong as Marcus, Amy Madigan as Gladys Lilly, Cary Christopher as Alex Lilly, Toby Huss as Captain Ed.

Who is the target audience for this film? How can we tell?

Target audience - 14/15? I'm guessing because of the kids on the cover which look like

they're around 8/7 but the clues on the cover that make me guess it's a horror movie also

raise the age rating.


  • REPRESENTATION


What representation of people or groups can we find in this poster? What does it tell the audience?

All it shows is children in the initial poster noting the prologue, I feel like it’s pretty obvious the movie is telling the audience the movie is about missing children and the events that follow.


Colour scheme & Camera shot :

The entire poster is filled with dark blues that get lighter and lighter the further away they are - maybe that's what the children are chasing. The title "Weapons" is in a bright red contrasting heavily against the calm. The clouds are dark symbolising a storm (maybe it's a warning). Shows children running away ; reinforces the prologue. Arms are open like an embrace -> maybe they aren't being abducted but WANT to leave. There are some children fully obscured so it might be too late for some.

  Denotation: the literal meaning of something E.g.
